Lake Returns To The Fray!
McKay Motorsport posted Friday February 12, 2010. |
Precisely 51 weeks to the day since his ill-fated Australian Championship aspirations at Manjimup Speedway last February, when he expired his race engine in heat one, young Western Australian hard charging V8 Dirt Modified racer Bryn Lake will return to action at Perth Motorplex on Friday February 12th.
Albeit in the Greg McKay number 65 car, Lake is eager to place his backside back behind the wheel of a car once again.
“I’m appreciative to Greg for the opportunity he has given me as I have missed the competition against my local adversaries and also the opportunity to have another crack at the National Title last month in Brisbane”.
“I have a Troyer chassis almost ready to resume and my engine goes on the dyno this week prior to my comeback, but just to get a few laps in prior to this will be a great advantage by getting back into the fray”.
McKay summed up his decision by explaining that it is important to keep the youngsters enthused and that by giving Lake a “few laps” prior to his return was seen as a win win by both teams by gaining a second opinion on the handling characteristics of the Auto One Kwinana 65 racer.
“I’ll have to emphasise to him that the car needs to be returned as it goes out as I need it to compete the following week at Bunbury City Speedway for the third round of the South-West Cup Series” stated McKay.
“But I don’t see that as a problem following previous scenarios enjoyed back in the early eighties when I enjoyed a similar relationship with his father Ian as we often shared Go-Karts in our formative years”.
“So this will be just a one-off drive at this stage which I see as being an important link in the chain of encouraging the youngsters to enjoy their racing as I did earlier in the season with the opportunity I afforded to visiting American Formula 500 pilot Austin Farley from Colorado which he appreciated and enjoyed so much”.
The second half of the season now revolves into full swing with this week’s Perth Motorplex meeting being followed by the third round of the South-West Cup series the following week (Bunbury) and the fourth round to be conducted at Manjimup Speedway on March 6.
Added to the spectacle will be the return of veteran Peter Cox, not seen since race one at Ellenbrook Speedway back on October 17 2009 when he destroyed an engine at the meeting attended by Australia One Peter Britten and Aaron Trotter driving the Team Kennedy racecar.
Cox is looking forward to his resumption as it has been his longest break from racing for quite a few seasons.
