Weedsport, NY – July 6, 2010 – In a classic remake of the former DIRT-Asphalt Challenge that prospered some 20 years earlier, the Big-Block boys were at it again in the newest millennium as a handful of high-profile cars & stars from the DIRTcar Northeast circuit toured the paved streets of Syracuse on Tuesday morning. It was a record-setting day from beginning to end as the first-ever parade of race cars staged in the Salt City was witnessed by thousands of bystanders on a sweltering day when the heat index approached 110-degrees by afternoon. The highlight was a 2.3-mile excursion through the city with a police escort leading the decorated group of ground-pounding open-wheel machines steered by DIRTcar favorites Brett Hearn (reigning Mr. DIRT champion), Matt Sheppard (defending Syracuse 200 winner), Ryan Phelps (inaugural All-Star winner), successful Super DIRTcar Series pilot Jimmy Phelps and rising star Michael Storms. Amidst the extended holiday festivities featuring free autograph and picture-taking sessions, ticket and prize giveaways held throughout the lunch hour, on the scene to chronicle this historic event were numerous members of the media, with cameramen from the three primary Syracuse television outlets and the Associated Press (AP) beat reporter leading the coverage. “The city of Syracuse opened its arms to DIRTcar Racing leading up to this event and today it certainly wrapped itself around our staff and racers as well as the entire community to create a truly landmark occasion,” remarked Jeff Hachmann, DIRTcar Racing Northeast Director of Marketing, Promotions & Sales. “On the eve of our 2nd Annual All-Star Weekend at Cayuga County in nearby Weedsport, downtown was a perfect back drop as we continue to prepare for the biggest event of all --- Super DIRTcar Week at the NYS Fairgrounds in October.” DIRTcar All-Star Weekend II is scheduled to begin July 15 at Brewerton Speedway and conclude July 16-17 at Cayuga County Fair Speedway. The 39th edition of Super DIRT Week on the famed Syracuse Mile is slated to run Oct. 6-10.
