Victorian Brad Lowe was appointed as the head of the new National Technical Committee at the Dirt Modified Australia Annual General Meeting recently. The newly created role replaces that of the National Technical Officer (NTO), a position most recently held by Queensland V8 Dirt Modified stalwart David Conlin.

Dirt Modifieds Australia (DMA) Vice President Garry Wathen explained the new position was aimed at streamlining the resolution of technical issues which may arise throughout the season.

" It's a big change from the way we used to do things and we believe it is a something which will allow the DMA to efficiently and quickly consider and then address any important technical issues during the season. David Conlin has worked tirelessly for the division over a number of years and we sincerely thank him for the work he has done and continues to do, and we are looking forward to working with Brad this season and into the future"

" Brad will head a committee of technical officers from each state, and that committee will make recommendations to the DMA Board who will then vote on any technical changes. As a division we are at the stage where people have a pretty sizable investment in their racing equipment and they expect the DMA to be able to respond quickly to technical issues which need clarifying. As a Board, and in conjunction with Brad and the National Technical Committee, we intend to do just that."

The annual two-day meeting also heard that he ongoing structural changes within the DMA are almost complete, with Wathen confirming that new 'model rules' have now been accepted by members.

" Our new rules are structured so that all elected positions are for a period of two years, with alternate elections each year for either State delegates or the Executive committee" said Wathen.

" The two-year period gives us some stability, while the alternate elections means we are not going to have a mass exodus of people all at once."

Colin Clark (QLD), Steve Robinson (NSW), Brad Lowe (VIC) & Peter Cox (WA) were all elected as State representative on the DMA Board at the AGM, while Executive members Paul Britten (President) Gary Wathen (Vic President), Shawn Mortimer (Secretary) & Lynne Wathen (Treasurer) will retain their positions for a further 12 months.

With the V8 Dirt Modified division coming off the back of a highly successful season 2009/10, the DMA Board have elected to go with the 'status quo' in terms of specifications for the upcoming season, with no major rule changes forthcoming.

" Things are starting to look good across the board" said Wathen. "Victoria is on a pretty major upswing in terms of numbers, Queensland is continuing to surge ahead, we're looking to expand on our marketing of the division next season, so in general V8 Dirt Modifieds are in pretty good shape"
